Woodland Management
We offer a fully comprehensive range of managerial work. Some woodland owners prefer a hands-on approach, and we provide expert back-up where they require it. In other cases, the woodland owner may not have the time or expertise to manage their woodlands, and we can provide any of the following management services, in conjunction with advice, contracting work and the sale of timber:
- Preparation of Management Plans - We can draw up detailed management plans for forests of any size, including new plantations. Such a plan would outline long-term aims and objectives, in order to keep a coherent management strategy over the long timescales involved in forestry, but would also contain detailed short and medium term programmes of work, and involves both timber and non timber woodland objectives.
- Survey Work - We can carry out full site, crop and tree surveys, to obtain a range of information. We can survey timber or full sites for valuation, arrange ecological surveys for conservation purposes, and our staff are experienced in carrying out Veteran Tree Surveys. Not only do veteran trees provide character to many woodlands, they are important habitats, and we submit results of these surveys to the Veteran Trees Initiative for inclusion on a national database held by English Nature.
- Health & Safety - If you wish to work in your own forest, or hire contractors yourself, we can draw up Risk Assessment and Health & Safety policies for your woodlands, relevant to current H&S legislation. Where our gangs or sub-contractors hired by us are used, our own Health & Safety policies are adhered to.
- Engagement and Supervision of Contractors. We can utilize our own gangs, or vet and hire suitable contractors local to your woodland to carry out planting, felling, pest control etc.
